The Rights Respecting School Award - Our Ambition Starts Here
We are very excited to share with the whole school community our ambition to become an accredited UN Rights Respecting School. The Rights Respecting Schools Award, as established by UNICEF, puts children's rights at the heart of school life. This is in line with the articles defined by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), a legally binding international agreement setting out the civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of every child, regardless of their race, religion or abilities.
We believe our school's vision and values have, at their heart, the importance of treating each other as we would want to be treated ourselves: with respect and dignity, whilst ensuring we are all valued. This is one of the reasons why the work of UNICEF and the Rights Respecting Schools Award is so important to us. By the end of this academic year, we are determined to successfully achieve the first stage: the Bronze Award. This is primarily a planning stage whereby Cranmere will need to provide documented evidence of our school's commitment and how we intend to become rights respecting.
This is the start of a wonderful journey, but we as a school cannot do this alone. To be triumphant in our objective we need the support of the whole school community: staff, pupils, parents and governors. Everyone needs to be fully engaged and on board. To help understand the extent of this undertaking please refer to: https://www.unicef.org.uk/rights-respecting-schools/the-rrsa/about-the-rrsa/ and in terms of the articles, please see below pdf and at: https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/convention-rights-child
At school in our assemblies we have already begun introducing the children to the various children's rights and the school council have commenced researching them. Over time, we will share our pupils thoughts with you but for now, thank you for your support. Hopefully together we can achieve putting the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child into practice within our school, at home and beyond.
